Accessing Stata
You will need to use some sort of statistical software for this class. The TA and I can support you in using Stata. You're welcome to use another software, but you will be on your own for support.
You can use Stata on the cloud at GW; reviews so far are not very encouraging. Contact the TA with questions about how to do this.
In non-pandemic times, you can also use Stata on GW library computers. Most students seem to feel this is the better option.
This year, I strongly encourage you just to buy a student license for Stata. See information here. You'll need Stata-SE, and I think that this is well worth the $125 cost.
Learning Stata
If you'd like to do some Stata self-study before the semester begins in earnest, I highly recommend
- UCLA's Stata Learning Modules. I'd focus on the first two “fundamentals”.
- Chapter 1 of UCLA's Regression with Stata
GWU Statistical Computing Support
GW has online support for students using statistical software. Book appointments here.
